GETTING TO THE FESTIVAL

The NDSM wharf in Amsterdam-Noord is the venue for Over het IJ Festival. This site is easily accessible by foot, bicycle, public transport and car. The map below provides a more detailed description of the route from various points of departure.

Ferry from Amsterdam Central Station

The free NDSM werfveer (ferry) operated by GVB, the Amsterdam public transport company, transports festival visitors from Amsterdam Central Station to the festival site. The ferry departs at quarter to and quarter past the hour from the jetties on the north side of Amsterdam Central Station in the direction of the NDSM wharf. On weekdays, a ferry sails between the station and the wharf every 15 minutes between 4:00 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Please arrive on time to ensure you have a place since no more than 250 people can cross at a time. If the ferry is full, you can also take the Buiksloterweg ferry, which drops you off approximately 10 minutes away by bicycle from the NDSM wharf (see below for a description of the route). During the festival, the ferry returns to Amsterdam Central Station until 01:00 a.m. on weekdays and until 02:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday!

Cycle route from Buiksloterweg ferry

If you follow the cycle path along Buiksloterweg, it eventually leads into Van der Pekstraat. Continue along the cycle path. At the roundabout, continue straight on. Continue straight on along the cycle path next to the car bridge. Continue straight through the tunnel (ignore the bicycle tunnel on the left) underneath the car bridge and into Kamperfoelieweg. At the first set of traffic lights, turn left into Riebesstraat (you will see a red cycle signpost Tuindorp Oostzaan). Continue to the end of the street and take the Papaverweg cycle path on the right, which runs into Klaprozenweg. At the second of traffic lights, turn left and then right immediately. Turn left into Ms. van Riemsdijkweg. You have now reached the Festival Heart.

Bus from Amsterdam Central Station

You can also take the bus if you are afraid of water or do not really wish to spend ten wonderful minutes on a ferry. From Amsterdam Central Station, take bus 35 towards Molenwijk and disembark at the Atatürk bus stop, or bus 91 or 94 towards Zaandam until the Klaprozenweg bus stop.

Car

Travelling on the A10 ring road, take exit s118 (Tuindorp Oostzaan). Follow the signs for Industrieterrein Noord. Turn right at Ms. Van Riemsdijkweg (Noord 150 – 189). After 400 m you will see the Festival Heart on your left. You can park on the right, free of charge. Please note that the IJ tunnel is closed during the festival.

Ferry from Tasmanstraat

A ferry service is also available from Tasmanstraat (the Houthaven ferry). On weekdays, this ferry departs at quarter to and quarter past the hour. The trip to the NDSM wharf takes six minutes. On the weekend and in the evening from 8:10 p.m. onwards, it sails three times an hour (ten minutes to, ten minutes past and half past the hour). This ferry can carry 120 people across at a time.

Ferry to Overhoeks

During the festival, Overhoeks can be reached via the Buiksloterweg ferry that departs from Amsterdam Central Station. Upon arrival, you will see Cafe de Pont on the left and the entrance to the Overhoeks festival site behind it.
