1. SENTENCED TO SUSTAINABILITY? - ABOUT FUTURE SCENARIOS
Warning: the earth is warming up, the pole caps are melting, sea levels are rising. We sing the praises of sustainability, hear about doom scenarios and huge floods, an imminent Apocalypse. What will really become of us? Will we become like the sea-level refugees doomed to a nomadic existence along the shoreline? Will the Eskimos have to evacuate and does it really matter if we leave our lights on when we don’t happen to know any Eskimos? How willing are we to save the climate?!
LONG ROUTE Saturday 4 and 11 July from 15.45 until 21.45
This route includes:
1. The artistic performance Droogland (Dryland) by Marjolein Frijling: an absurd consequence of a realistic event. Two Eskimos who have had to leave their melted pole caps and try to integrate in North Amsterdam’s Docklands. They roam ill-at-ease across the concrete expanse... Can they acclimatise?
2. An exclusive dinner provided by One for the Road. Eat, drink and talk with a sustainability expert at the dinner table. To be determined.
3. Opgewekt.NU (Generated.NOW) is a theatrical tour along several sustainable installations, for example the fitness fast food restaurant. For anyone who ever visited a sports school and thought: ‘What a pity nothing is done with the energy!’ A mobile fitness studio where you can turn movement into energy. And then into carbohydrates!
4. The poetic performance Zeespiegelvluchtelingen (Sea-level refugees) by Pepijn Smit. Sea level refugees are a nomadic people living on the edge between water and land. Rising sea levels dominate their lives. They constantly have to readjust to a new environment, and to each other. What keeps them alive in that hostile environment?
