2. FIGHT OR PERISH? – ABOUT HAVING POWER OVER YOUR DESTINY AND MORTALITY
We fight against decay; against infirmity; against the youth which passes us by; against traces of wrinkles which appear on our skin; against everything which gets older and uglier. We clear away anything that is dirty or dead. Is there any point in fighting against nature? How real is the power over our own destiny we so like to believe in? And why do we sometimes like to deny our mortality so much?
LONG ROUTE Saturday 4 and Sunday 12 July from 16.45 until 22.30
This route includes:
1. The artistic performance Ons Oneindig (Our infinity) by Peerke Malsschaert and Barbara Knapper: about the desire to turn everything back and about accepting that everything has to pass. The fear and solace of mortality.
2. An exclusive dinner provided by One for the Road. Eat, drink and talk with cultural sociologist Stef Aupers at the dinner table (4 July) who researches the modern belief in technology and man’s power over his destiny: the end of mortality? The end of man?! The guest of 12 July is still to be determined.
3. The inventive installation Machina della Panoramica by RABONK: about the man who keeps his environment alive by creatively reusing natural, worn out or forgotten materials. Why do we throw away old rubbish when everything can be given a new use? Why rest before we have used up our energy?
4. The artistic performance Wiek (Vane) by Boukje Schweigman: a struggle by insignificant man against powers greater than himself.
Specially reduced price 42.50 euros
