3. WHO IS THE GREATEST IN THE LAND?! - ABOUT MODERN-DAY LEADERS AND HEROS

Reactions to Obama’s election victory spoke volumes. Google is flooded with forums about “good leadership” and politics and media create “heros for a day”. The media is completely clear about this point: we want great leaders and heros who give us a grip in a chaotic world? How do we determine what is ‘good’? And when do we really believe in someone? Have we lost our grip or don’t we want any real responsibility anymore?!

LONG ROUTE Sunday 5 and Saturday 11 July from 17.00 until 22.00

This route includes:

1.The performance Ondervlakte (Subface) by Marjolijn van Heemstra: a theatrical investigation into good leadership on a ship, the lack of direction in our society, captains and sea journeys. The ship is a mini society: when do you decide to climb aboard and join them?

2. An exclusive dinner provided by One for the Road. Eat, drink and talk with image expert Drs. Albert Roele (11 July). The expert of 5 July is still to be determined.

3. The performance Roberto 2 by the NUT theatre company: a theatrical portrait of Roberto Zucco whose moral principles clash against the generally accepted norms. How much influence does our environment and our nature have on the way we act? The performance is part of a series De tragiek van de hedendaagse held (The tragedy of the modern day hero): how clear is our understanding of heroism?!

4. The Sea container programme De Reusachtige Microkosmos (The gigantic microcosmos) : about the very smallest particles in the flows of a limitless globalising world; about the small personal interests which always float to the surface however idealistic you try to be. Is that why we prefer to let others takes the big decisions?
