4. VESTIGES OF THE PAST - ABOUT IDENTITY AND BOUNDARIES

All around us wars are being fought. Our history is defined by camps of the victorious and the conquered: of them and us. A map of the world shows borders which have been fought over and redrawn. The history of the world has many stories of battle, pride, promises and power. In how far do we identify ourselves with the storylines of the past? In how far do we defend our identity and how much can we impose our identity on others? And how important is it to keep reaffirming our position?!

LONG ROUTE Wednesday 8 and Friday 10 July from 18.00 until 22.30

This route includes:

1. An exclusive dinner provided by One for the Road. Eat, drink and talk with experts(that are still to be determined) at the dinner table.

2. The performance Janken en Schieten (Crying and shooting) by the young and successful theatre-maker Ilay den Boer: about the Zionist dream which drove his grandmother from Lithuania to Israel. The Israël which Ilay always carries with him. The promised land which has never materialised. What does his Jewishness mean, here and now? Will we, can we and shouldn’t we determine our position on the matter?

3. In the Sea container programme De Reusachtige Microkosmos (The gigantic microcosmos): the latest generation of theatre-makers searches for shapes and stroies about the big little world which withdraws into itself. Inside the sea containers they show the smallest particles of a world which battles on outside.

4. The musical performance Mara by theatre collective De Maan: a desperate quest to find innocence and justice in a post-war home. Why is it that flare-ups and border conflicts continue to tear families apart in spite of the “reordering of the world”?

Specially reduced price 43.50 euros
